MG Motors has finally announced the name of their India based SUV. The SUV has been named as Hector. The name Hector is inspired from Price Hector, who was a warrior and he lead the armies of Troy in the Trojan War in Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad and from the Hawker Hector biplane used by the UK’s Royal Air Force in the 1930s. The new Hector is set to launch in the Indian auto markets in May, 2019.
The Hector SUV is known by different names and sold under different brands in the other countries like it is known by the name Wulng Almaz in Indonesia and Baojun 530 in China. However, MG Motors has made modifications on the SUV according to the demands of the Indian markets. The upcoming SUV is likely to be priced competitively under Rs 20 lakhs [ex showroom].
The upcoming SUV will be a five seater SUV slightly more spacious than the Jeep Compass. The SUV will come equipped with segment leading kit. The spy images of new Hector have revealed some of its features. The SUV sports a vertically mounted touchscreen infotainment system which doubles as a display for the 360 degree camera. The infotainment system will be installed with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink compatibility. The other prominent features on the Hector includes steering mounted controls, a push button start, a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable leather seats, a digital MID between the tachometer and speedometer and an electronic parking brake.
MG Motors will offer the new Hector SUV with two powering options at the time of launch. The two engine options include a 1.5 litre direct injection turbo petrol motor and a FCA sourced 2.0 litre turbo diesel motor. Both the engines are BS VI compliant and are likely to come matted with automatic transmission as reveled by the spy images. When launched, the new SUV will compete on the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. The company is working to set up 100 sales and service outlets in the country by the month of May this year.
