The Mercedes Benz SLC is an iconic car according to many. It is also currently the only hardtop convertible available. Previously known as the SLK until 2016, this car has always been a crowd favorite from Mercedes’ stables. But it may soon be a thing of the past as it will go out of production soon.
The brand will unveil the last of the models – the 2020 Mercedes Benz SLC final edition next month at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The smallest two-door roadster first came to the markets all the way back in 1996. It was also the car that started the trend of hardtop convertibles. Though the brand’s other cars like the S, C, and E class cabriolets all use a soft fabric top, Mercedes continues to use a folding hardtop for the SLC.
As a special touch, the SLC Final Edition will sport a new Yellow paint scheme to pay homage to the original SLK. It also gets black and grey color options. Also being a part of the AMG line-up, it gets unique bumpers and 18-inch AMG five-spoke alloy wheels.
The SLC gets a few different engine options to choose from. It gets a 1.6 or a 2.0 liter in the SLC 180, 200 and the 300. A 3.0 liter V6 is also available only in the AMG 43 version. Power output ranges from 154bhp to 383bhp on the V6 version. The SLC 180 and 200 models will get a 6-speed manual transmission. The SLC 300 and the AMG 43 versions, on the other hand, will run on a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Coming to the performance, the convertible can reach 100kmph from a standstill in under 4.7s. The top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.
