Mercedes has unwrapped its all-new third-generation CLS, which was showcased at 2017 LA Auto Show. The luxurious four-door coupe sedan was the most awaited model in India. It has been introduced at a price of Rs 84.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It has got the sexiest design in the CLS range with a sloping roofline and frameless doors. The previous two generation models are most successful in Indian market which influenced the company to launch the next-version as well.
The third-gen CLS has got a mesmerizing design from front to rear. The beauty is equipped with angular LED headlamps and taillamps. It is developed with the Sensual Purity design language. From the front, it looks bold reflecting the coupe concept with sleek hood and huge waistline. The car is outfitted with split 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels which are has got attractive silver treatment. Just like the ongoing variant, the company has placed the badge within the tail lamps. The wheelbase and the boot space is 2,988mm and 520 litres, respectively.
Moving inside the cabin, we see the more classy and luxurious elements which are completely satisfying to eyes. The cabin is wonderfully decorated with high-quality wood elements on the dash highlighting four jet turbine AC vents on the focus. It is integrated with a 12.3-inch infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets a Virtual Cockpit digital display. The vehicle is a five-seater arrangement with comfortable seats. The classy decoration using leather, wood, and metal makes it more awesome.
The German automotive manufacturer has offered many high-level security features in the third-gen CLS including driver-assistance technologies, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane assist, speed limit assist, pre-safe occupant protection, pre-safe sound technology, adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, active speed limit assist, and active blind-spot assist. The powertrain of the vehicle is BS-VI-compliant to make it even safer.
The Indian version of CLS is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel motor which generates 245hp max power and 500Nm of torque. The engine is combined with a 9-speed automatic gearbox transmission. The company claims the 0-100kph time of 6.4 seconds and the top speed at 250kph. In India, the model will compete against the likes of Audi A7 and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe.
