Meet Porsche’s electric warriors – Taycan Turbo and Turbo S

With the world moving over to alternative energy solutions – it is only about time that electric cars take over. Of course, we will be missing the glorious exhaust note of the likes of V6, V8, V10 and the W16 engines and then a few… The smell of the gasoline, which for us – petrolheads, is better than the smell of a perfume. The exhilarating driving experience then? Nah, we wont’ be missing it though as some manufacturers are hard balled in putting us in electric catapults of joy. Meet the Porsche Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S – Porsche’s first all-electric sports car.

These are electric sports car with a sense of practicality. Yes, It does 0-100 in about 3 seconds. And yes, you can actually take your children to school in the Taycan without having them complain about leg room.  The base variant, the Taycan Turbo generates about 680 PS and the Taycan Turbo S develops about 760 PS. The battery pack is the same for both the cars – a 93.4 kWh pack. This is also the first car that has a 800 volts system voltage instead of the usual 400 volts found in cars. This allows for quick charging of the Taycan. The car can be charged from 5% to 80% in about 22.5 minutes under ideal conditions and the maximum charging power is 270 kW. The WLTP range of the Taycan varies from 388 Km to 412 Km.

The exhilarating driving experience then? Nah, we wont be missing it though. Blokes at Stuttgart are hard balled about putting us in electric catapults of joy.

 

Exterior and Interior

The exterior design of the Taycan strongly resembles the Porsche DNA – while being simple. The car is noticeably wide. The profile of the Taycan is characterized by the sloping roof line and sculpted lines that runs along the side. On the interior, the car looks like it is back from the Future. The highlight is the dashboard is the freestanding fully digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system is a 10.9 touch screen. You can also have an optional passenger screen – How cool is that? Speaking of the practicality you get 4 seats and two compartments one of 81 litres and a massive boot of 366 litres.

Prices for the Taycan start at INR 1 crore for the Turbo and goes upto INR 1.2 Crores for the Turbo S variant.
