Piaggio India has unveiled the BS6 versions of its Aprilia and Vespa scooters. With the introduction of the BS6 compliant models, the entire line up is now fuel-injected for better throttle response and compliance to the emission norms. The 150CC engine in the Aprilia and the Vespa lineup is now replaced by a 160cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine.
There is also a significant bump in the prices as well. The Aprilia range now starts from INR 85,431 while the Vespa range starts at INR 91,492. So far, these are the highest price rise reported with respect to BS6 upgrade in India. The new 160cc motor replaces the 154.8cc motor in the outgoing model, while the output has increased to 10.8 bhp. Apart from the introduction of the Fuel injection and updated engines, the scooters remain unchanged – both mechanically and cosmetically. Even the graphics are identical to the ones in the outgoing model, which is an opportunity missed.
Commenting on the launch, Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio India said, “We are pleased to transition effectively into BS6 emission norms for our Vespa and Aprilia range of scooters, well ahead of the deadline. Being aligned to the Government’s efforts on emission, we have achieved a significant reduction in emission through our advanced combustion system. As a global brand, we understand the need to innovate and evolve, in order to build mobility for the future.”
The 160cc range of Aprilia and Vespa scooters have started reaching showrooms pan India, while the 125cc range of Aprilia and Vespa will be launched soon. They may be available as early as January 2020. Model wise prices of the Aprilia and Vespa scooters are listed below. All prices are ex-showroom.
