A premium offering of the outgoing variant, this trick has worked quite well for India’s biggest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki. The latest being the WagonR based XL5, that has been spotted testing many times. But Maruti Suzuki is also testing an electric variant of the same called the XL5 EV.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to showcase any action in the EV scene but with this vehicle, the EV will become much more affordable to the general customer. Coming from Maruti that too based on WagonR, this vehicle can change the EV market. It has the same silhouette and engine as the WagonR, but it’s just that much more premium.
The car is fully camouflaged. But we can still figure out some changes. The car had a different set of the tail light unit most probably an LED setup, it also had a rear wiper and LED stop lamp. The front will be similar to XL5, DRLs, and indicator housing together in a sleek looking design while the headlight is placed on the bumper. It gets black alloy wheels, as well as there was no exhaust pipe at the back.
While the chances of this being an EV are not 100%, it can also be the regular XL5. But the absence of an exhaust pipe hints towards an EV. The XL5 will be launched through NEXA when launched. It will get the 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol motor which makes 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 4,200rpm and is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and AMT as an option. While there is no info about the electric motor or battery XL5 EV will get. Stay tuned to find out will it be the most affordable EV from Maruti Suzuki or a premium version of the WagonR.
