On the first day of Auto Expo 2020, Maruti Suzuki showcased Futuro-e concept. It suggested the company’s plans on electric mobility for the Indian automotive market. The carmaker has planned to go greener with the launch of powerful hybrids and EVs range in India. In Idia, the company already sells mild-hybrid and CNG range. Along with the EV model, the carmaker also unwrapped Swift hybrid with ‘Suzuki Strong Hybrid Technology’.
Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology was first seen on the Ertiga diesel variant in 2015. It was a single battery configuration along with Ciaz petrol trim in a dual-battery arrangement. The new Swift Hybrid SL is the enhanced version of both the models in electric concept. It is powered by a 1242cc, four-cylinder petrol engine which gives power to the front wheels. The motor is capable of churning out 92hp of power and 118Nm of peak torque.
The Swift Hybrid also gets an electric motor which makes 13.6hp of max power and 30Nm of torque. The petrol engine is combined with a 5 speed AMT option. The hybrid motor allows the car to drive on full-electric mode at low speeds. It claims a fuel efficiency at 32 kmpl in the JC08 test cycle. The small car is integrated with a 48V mild-hybrid system which is an enhanced version of 12V start/stop system used on Baleno, Ertiga and Ciaz. The new features offer higher performance compared to the ongoing models.
The new Swift Hybrid features superior Li-ion battery technology which highlights idle start/stop, torque assist and regenerative braking system. In terms of dimension, the vehicle is 3,840mm in length, 1,692mm in width and 1,500mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2,450mm. It gets a ‘Hybrid’ badging, dual camera brake assistance and paddle shifters. The company has received great response fro the Indian customers for its new BS6 models.
Maruti Suzuki has sold more than five lakh unit of the BS6 range which motivated the carmaker to expand the hybrid and EV segment. The Hybrid model was showcased as a part of the company’s Mission Green Million, which is focused on new hybrid technologies and develop electric motors. The new variant is expected to be launched by the end of this year. At present, the company is working on Wagon R-based EV, which will make its debut next year.
