Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest car maker has announced a price hike across all its models and this will come into effect from today 16th August, 2018. Therefore, all the new prices are effective from today itself. The price hike of the total range of cars varies across models and is up to Rs 6,100 [ex showroom – Delhi]. This is for the second time in this year that Maruti Suzuki India is announcing a price hike. Earlier, in January, 2018 the auto maker had announced a price [ex showroom – Delhi] hike ranging from Rs 1,700 to Rs 17,000.

Maruti Suzuki India has reported the reason for the price hike saying that the hike is due to the increase in commodity and distribution costs and adverse foreign exchange rates. Earlier this month, R S Kalsi, Maruti Suzuki India, Senior Executive Director said, “the company has been analysing the adverse movement of commodity prices, which are going towards the higher side. Besides, the foreign exchange rate had impacted the company adversely, while fuel prices too have increased, adding to the logistics costs.”

Maruti Suzuki India retails a wide range of vehicles ranging from the entry level hatchback Alto 800 to the mid sized sedan Ciaz. Prior to this price hike the ex showroom [Delhi] prices across the vehicles varied from Rs 2.51 lakhs to Rs 11.51 lakh. Maruti Suzuki India has not yet revealed the individual price hike of its models but the hike won’t exceed Rs 6,100.

Not only Maruti Suzuki but also the other auto makers like the Honda Cars India, the Mahindra and Mahindra and the Tata Motors have also announced price hike effective from this month due to the rising input costs. Moreover, today 16th August 2018, Mercedes – Benz, the German car maker has announced an increase in price of its automobiles upto 4 percent from September. Prior to this in April this year, the luxury car makers – Mercedes Benz, Audi and JLR had increased the price of vehicles across models in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in order to pass on the increase in custom duties.
