Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid has been spotted testing. The test mule seems to be the end of the line trim of the premium hatchback. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has recently launched the facelifted version of the Baleno with some additional features. The facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno was launched with some cosmetic changes including the new alloy wheels and the revised bumpers. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid on test was seen with the blue and silver ‘Smart Hybrid Badge’ on the boot of the car. This particular logo makes the Hybrid variant distinct from the premium hatchback.
There is no information whether the mild-hybrid SHVS system from Maruti will arrive with the petrol or diesel engine. The petrol engine is expected to be carried forward but complication can arise with the petrol being the IC-component of the hybrid setup. The International spec Maruti Baleno, which is on sale in Netherlands gets a 1,242cc engine with the smart hybrid tech on board. But implementing this same power train in the India based Maruti Suzuki Baleno will exempt the manufacturer from the government tax cuts offered for engines under 1200cc.
The stricter BS-VI norms will come into force from 1st April, 2020. In order to comply by the new norms, the automobile manufacturers are making their vehicles ready. Maruti Suzuki likewise is working on to make its entire vehicle range BS-VI compliant. Maruti is utilising its Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) mild-hybrid technology as a key to make the vehicles compliant to the new norms.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback will benefit from this Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) mild-hybrid technology. The implementation of the SHVS will increase the price of the premium hatchback when it gets updated to the BSVI norms. The SHVS system includes an integrated starter generator which aids the IC engine during acceleration. It derives power from a heavy duty battery which is recharged through brake energy regeneration. The system is claimed to achieve noticeable improvements in fuel efficiency. The Maruti Baleno has been a hit product for the brand since it’s launch, recording average sale of over 10,000 units.
