Maruti Suzuki India has launched the Alto 800 with an updated BS6 compliant engine to keep the newer norms in check. The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is launched at a price of Rs 2.94 Lakhs(ex-showroom) for the base variant.
While this is not a generation update, it is more of a facelift with an updated engine to meet the government guidelines. Maruti will also launch the new generation Alto 800 soon. Alto 800 is the second car under the Maruti Suzuki stable to receive a BS6 ready engine, after the Baleno.
Coming to other changes, it gets a new and a larger grille in black color and changes in the bumper. The inside gets a redesigned dashboard finished in black and beige color, with a new design for the AC vents. The top of the line VXi variant also gets central locking, Bluetooth enabled infotainment system and keyless entry. Maruti Suzuki has also included bottle holders for front and rear console. Design for the speedometer has also been changed.

We are confident that the New Alto will be a car that young Indians will be proud to own.”
The engine still remains the same 800cc petrol motor which is now BS-Vi compliant. It’s a 796cc, 3 cylinder motor which makes 48ps at 6,000 rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Though with the updated engine the fuel efficiency figures have dropped a bit to 22.05km/l. As for the safety front, driver airbag, ABS with EBD, speed alert warning, rear parking sensors are on offer. There is also an option to opt for dual airbags in the lower variants, though they come as standard on the top variant. It comes with 12-inch steel wheels.
With all these safety features and BS-VI compliant engine Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 price has increased a bit. It now starts at Rs 2.94 lakh for the Std variant. The LXI version comes around Rs 3.5 lakhs and the top of the line VXI is priced at Rs 3.72 lakhs. Maruti offers 6 color options – Mojito Green, Granite Grey, Superior White, Uptown Red, Cerulean Blue, and Silky Silver. It competes with the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-Go.
