Mahindra has introduced their first BS6 compliant engine, in their compact SUV. Yes, the XUV 300 now gets a BS6 petrol engine. As of now only the petrol motor has been made BS6 complaint. With only 4 months remaining for the BS6 norms to come in, slowly all the manufacturers are transitioning their power-train to BS6.
Talking about the petrol motor, it’s a 1.2 three-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor makes 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six speed manual transmission. The diesel motor is more impressive with 300Nm of torque but is yet to be BS6 complaint, it also comes with a AMT transmission.
The price for the BS6 XUV300 starts from Rs 8.30 lakh (ex-showroom pan India) for the base variant W4 and goes all the way up to Rs 11.84 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India) for the W8(O). Which is Rs 20,000 more than the BS4 variants.
On the launch, Mr. Rajan Wadhera, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. commented, “We are delighted to launch our first BS 6 vehicle. It is a milestone in our BS6 transition journey. Despite tight timelines, we along with our suppliers, have met the challenging requirements of these tighter emission norms, much ahead of the stipulated timeline. We will progressively upgrade our entire range with cleaner emissions technology.”
XUV300 has been one of the best sellers for Mahindra. Coming right after the Scorpio and Bolero. Last month the XUV300 sold 3,045 units. It competes with Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. Among all the competitors Mahindra XUV 300 is the first BS6 compliant sub 4m SUV.
