If you look at Mahindra’s Scorpio different variants you can see something missing in the series. It starts from the base spec S3 variant going up in odd incremental series. S3, S5, S7 and S11. Mahindra made the series complete with the launch of a new S9 variant.
The new Mahindra Scorpio S9 is priced at Rs 13.99 Lakhs which slots it perfectly between S7 and S11. While it carries all of the necessary features from S11 it is more than a lakh cheaper than the S11. Which makes it better value for money.
S9 features a lot of the good bits from S11. It gets Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC), 15-cm touchscreen infotainment system, GPS navigation in 10 languages with voice assist system, LED Light Guides, Micro-Hybrid Technology, ORVMs with Side-turn Indicators, Static-bending projector headlamps, Cornering projector lights, Audio & Cruise Controls on the steering wheel and dual airbags with ABS.
Speaking on the introduction of the S9 variant of the Scorpio, Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “Scorpio changed the landscape of the Indian Auto Industry & continues to be a dominant force in the SUV segment. The new Scorpio S9 offers a great feature package at an attractive price point making it a compelling buy for customers looking for a true-blue SUV while retaining Scorpio’s core DNA of Power, Driving Thrill & Adventure.”
S9 will get the same 2.2 Litre mHAWK engine as on S11 with 140bhp on tap a torque output of 320Nm mated to a 6-speed transmission. Though S9 misses out on some features compared to S11. Such as automatic lights and rain sensing wipers, rear parking camera and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). But considering the price difference, S9 stands out as better value for money.
The Mahindra Scorpio S9 competes against Tata Hexa. The S9 variant will also help Mahindra to stack up against Creta and upcoming Tata Harrier.
