Mahindra and Ford have come together to make their network stronger and expand their alliance. Mahindra will be providing service centers for Ford cars at their dealership. 15 towns have been selected to kick-start this alliance.
Mahindra will also open showrooms for Ford cars in the regions where hold of Ford is not that strong and sales are less. Mahindra has a much better service network in India then Ford. So, by selling Ford cars at their dealership it becomes a win-win situation for both manufacturers. Ford gets the reach and Mahindra gets quick profit by selling Ford cars.
An executive from Ford India said the two companies “have initiated a pilot, where selected Mahindra dealers in Tier 4+ towns were given an opportunity to sell and/or service Ford cars. The pilot has been rolled out to 15 towns and the results are encouraging, giving incremental sales and service reach for Ford.”
Anurag Mehrotra (Ford India’s managing director) himself met few of Mahindra dealers a few months ago to discuss the alliance.
Mahindra and Ford are also working on launching an EV Vehicle in March based on Mahindra platform. Mahindra is also making BS VI-compliant petrol engines and plans to provide it to Ford India. Also both the companies are going to invest in the telematics control unit for connected car solutions. They plan to jointly make technology and share it for better hold on the market and compete against Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
“Both players together will make the product portfolio stronger and give their customers more choice. So customers will get the benefits of better technology. At a lesser value and with a better-improved sales and service network. Companies may also have access to more points where they can install charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the next five years.”
We think that this is a very smart decision from both the manufacturers. It will help them overcome each other shortcoming and stand more competitive in the industry. Ford Ecosport is selling very well under this program which is a great result. We hope more car manufacturers come together to share developments and further improve the Car industry in India.
