Mahindra and Mahindra have announced that they will not introduce any new car after the XUV700, which is scheduled to be launched later this year. The auto maker has revealed that they will cease the launch of new car for a year till April, 2020. From April 2020 Bharat Stage 6 [BS6] emission norms are kicking in and therefore the Indian Utility vehicle maker is gearing up. The Bharat Stage 6 [BS6] emission norms are much stricter than the current Bharat Stage 4 [BS4] emission norms. In order to abide by the BS6 emission norms require car manufacturers to implement expensive emission control equipment, especially on the diesel motor powered cars.

The fixation of the expensive emission control equipment will lead to a price hike for the diesel engine cars. The car portfolio of the Mahindra and Mahindra in India is mainly composed of diesel engine powered cars like Bolero, Scorpio and XUV500 and will require considerable investment to make its cars BS6 compliant. Therefore, with the BS6 emission norms coming into effect, the products of the Mahindra and Mahindra will face a steep rise in price.
