Mahindra is all set to launch its latest SUV on November 26, 2018. The Indian variant SUV will be known as Alturas which is assumed to be the facelifted version of the SsangYong Rexton. This vehicle will be exclusively produced by Mahindra as it gets the company’s badge on it. Earlier reports claimed that the SUV will hit the Indian market on November 19, but it was later postponed.
The new Mahindra SUV will be set over the XUV500 in the company’s range in the Indian market. SsangYong G4 Rexton was uncovered in 2017 at Seoul Motor Show and the Alturas SUV will get some similar elements from the variant. Although, the Indian version will get some distinctive features as well. The large vehicle will be equipped with varied vertical grille slats which are highlighted with the company’s emblem. It will come with 244mm ground clearance and a 5.5m turning circle.
The front of the SUV is modified, but the Mahindra’s DNA remains on it as standard. It is built with the robust exterior build material for high-level safety along with 9 airbags, keyless entry, ABS and EBD, ORVMs and push-button start. In terms of the interior features, the SUV is integrated with a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. It is equipped with more comfortable Nappa leather seat upholstery with the brown theme.
The upcoming Alturas SUV will be introduced in two variants that includes an entry level G2 trim with 2WD and G4 as 4WD. It will draw power from a 2.2-litre diesel unit delivering 180.5hp of max power and 450Nm of torque. The powertrain will be combined with a 7-speed automatic gearbox with manual shifting based on the Mercedes model. It will not come in a manual gearbox option. Overall, the bold appearance of the SUV is definitely a head turner when on road.
Alturas, the new vehicle of Mahindra will be the most pricey SUV in the range. ‘Alturas’ means ‘heights’ which indicates that Mahindra aims to achieve new sales heights in India. After the official launch, it will rival against the popularity of on-going SUV including Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour and the new version of MU-X.
