1) Tata Altroz
Why not start the list with the latest premium hatchback around the corner. Tata Altroz is one of the safest hatchbacks you can buy under 10 lakhs, as well as it gets a BS6 compliant 1.5L Revotorq diesel engine which makes 90ps of power at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque, it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. While Ford also has the Figo and Aspire with the same engine, we think that the Freestyle gets more safety features and is a better option. You can get the top Titanium+ variant under 10 lakhs.
5) Hyundai Venue
Yes, another Hyundai in the list. If you look past the hatchbacks and sedan, compact SUVs is becoming the trend. Not just the looks, the high ground clearance is very useful for our roads and there is a sense of confidence when you sit in a bigger looking vehicle. Hyundai Venue comes with a 1.5L engine which makes 100ps of power and 240Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Moving up the ladder the price also increases, so 10lakhs can only get you the base E variant of the Hyundai Venue. But it’s worth the price if you want a fuel-efficient compact SUV on a budget.
6) Tata Nexon
The car that bought the trend of a safe car in India. With the recent facelift it looks even more like an SUV from the front, it gets a 1.5L engine which makes 110ps and 260Nm of power. Tata Nexon also gets ride modes, and the sport mode will surely put a smile on your face. It also gets the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) as standard.
Under 10 lakhs you can pick up the XE variant of the diesel, while it is the base variant it gets most of the necessary features. It is always easy to upgrade interior features, and will get a stonker of a diesel motor.!
7) Ford Ecosport
The car who started this segment is still holding strong today. Be it the looks, the rear-mounted spare wheel or the strong set of engines, people still choose the Ecosport. Like most of the cars, it has a 1.5L diesel mill that makes 100ps and 205Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Even for the base variant, you will get all power windows, electric ORVMs and a music system.
Ford Ecosport Ambiente variant is the one to look out for, you can also take the Trend variant with a bit of plunge over 10 lakhs.
8) Mahindra XUV 300
Mahindra has been making diesel engines from so long that you can be sceptical about a Mahindra petrol, but a diesel from Mahindra never goes wrong. XUV 300 based on the Ssangyong Tivoli is a very complete product from Mahindra, in fact, it is one of the safest and most powerful cars in the segment. The 1.5L diesel engine from Mahindra makes 115ps of power and 300Nm of torque!
The only problem being the high price. But with some negotiations and discount, you can get the base W4 variant for 10 lakhs.
