Toyota’s luxury brand “Lexus” is making its presence stronger in India with its new launches. Lexus made its Indian debut back in March 2017 and today it extended it offering by launching its flagship luxury sedan the LS 500h. The car was initially showcased in the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. The flagship car is fifth product to be launched in India after NX 300h SUV and the current LS 500h is incidentally fifth-generation model. Lexus LS 500h is based on Toyota’s modern TNGA platform which is shared with many high-end models like the new Camry and the Prius.
The Luxury saloon carries the same signature Lexus spindle grille at the front. The car measures 5,235 meters long, 1,900 wide with a wheelbase of 3,125 meters. It comes with an air suspension and is available with petrol hybrid form, the saloon is powered with a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine which is mated with two electric motors which collectively churns out 354 hp which is mated with 10 speed automatic transmission and helps the car to gain 0-100 in a sprint of 5.4 seconds.
In the outside the car has a sloping roofline giving it a coupe like design and sharp lightning bolt design adaptive LED headlamps at the front along with the signature Lexus grills with chrome across the grills which gives it more modern and robust look. The car looks complete aero dynamic and even the OVRMs are designed aerodynamically. At the rear it looks well placed with the central chrome finish running downwards along the LED tail lamps and the below chrome skid plates. The tail lamps too compliments its chrome grill. It has a huge 20” cast aluminum, resonator wheels.
The interior of LS 500h is too top notch.The Saloon will be offered with 28-way adjustable front seats, heated seat with massage function. 12.3 inch central infotainment system with navigation system and also accompanies a 2,400 watt, 23 speakers Mark Levinson Surround music system as standard. The rear seat passengers can adjust the seats upto 48 degrees with an option to extend the footrest. The car also has active noise suspension package as standard. The Lexus LS 500h is based upon Takumi Design in which hand-pleated fabric, Kiriko cut glass, and Agathis woodwork (which Lexus refers to as “art wood.”) is used.
Lexus LS 500h starts at Rs 1.77 crore (ex-showroom, India). It is available in three variants: Luxury (Rs 1.77 crore), Ultra Luxury (Rs 1.82 crore) and Distinct (Rs 1.93 crore).The Lexus LS 500h will rival against BMW 7 series Mercedes-Benz S-Class as well as the Mercedes-Maybach S500, Audi A8, Jaguar XJ.
