Kia Motors is all set to enter into one of the hottest segment in India. While SUV itself is a 2nd most selling segment in India, compact SUVs are in a league of their own. Small enough for city use and manoeuvring, better ground clearance and commanding view to tackling the bad roads.
Comes in the Kia Sonet, much has been known about the Sonet, with spy pictures and renders. Kia is going to globally debut the Sonet on August 7 and just before that we have clearer pictures without the camouflage of the exteriors. Based on the Venue platform, but it looks very different. It has more of the SUV design feel going around it.
Starting from the front, you can see the familiar tiger-nose grille. Even the LED headlamps give it that aggressive front look. Side profile you can see that this is the mid variant as it gets steel wheels and even the sunroof is missing. Coming to the rear profile, this car seems to be going through some emission testing as there is a big device attached to the exhaust. The rear looks comparatively simpler, but the highlight is the LED rear tail light which joins both the light with an LED strip.
The interior will be quite similar to the bigger sibling, it will get the same 10.25-inch touchscreen system and UVO functionalities. It will also feature cruise control, ambient lighting and music system from Bose.
The engine options will be similar to Venue, three engine options, 1.5L diesel which makes 100ps and 240Nm of torque, it comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6 speed AT. it will also get a 1.2L petrol which makes 82hp and 113Nm of torque and comes with a 5-speed manual. Finally, the 1.0L turbo petrol will also be on offer with its 120ps of power, it will come mated to a 6-speed manual, 7-speed DCT ad the newly launched 6-speed iMT.
Kia Sonet will compete with various cars such as Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra TUV 300 and Tata Nexon. If Kia can price it aggressively, it can go on to become the segment leader like Seltos.
