Kia Motor is all set to enter the Indian automotive market with its all-new compact SUV codenamed SP2i. The company has finally revealed the official name of the upcoming SUV which was earlier spied completely undisguised. The upcoming Kia SUV will be called Seltos. The previous spy shots have revealed the car with the Seltos badge and now it’s officially confirmed.
The Kia Seltos is scheduled to be launched on June 20 this year. The name is based on a Greek mythology word, Celtus, the son of Hercules. The company has replaced ‘C’ with ‘S’ which indicated ‘speed, sportiness and strength’. The all-new model is based on the production version of the Kia SP Concept that was debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company has not disclosed any further details. Although, they have confirmed the car to be integrated with premium connected car technologies.
Kia Seltos can also come with lock/unlock and climate control system via smartphone. The name has been announced just after being spotted with a new badge. In 2018, Kia has announced a contest were the fans suggested some names for the new compact SUV. Tusker or the Trailster were the two names shortlisted. Although, the new name was not a part of the suggested names. The vehicle is equipped with bold front fog lamps, front parking sensors, heavier side cladding and new tail lamps.
The company has released the concept in terms of sketches which gives a glimpse of the car, but the spy shots reveal more details. It comes with a large hood, bold grille and bumper. The wheel arches give it a new modern appearance. It is integrated with wraparound LED taillights and dual exhausts arrangement. It can be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that will be combined with both manual and automatic transmission on offer.
The cabin of the Kia Seltos is more luxurious and feature packed. It is integrated with a large 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument console highlighting head-up display (HUD). The screen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with navigation and voice commands features. Some other features include a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, in-car Wi-Fi, leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats, grab handle and many more.
The all-new Seltos sits on 18-inch wheels covered in 225/45-section Kumho tyres highlighting dual-tone alloys scheme. It can be launched with the drive mode selector highlighting ‘Off-Road’ mode. Seltos will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the upcoming MG Hector, after the launch. Expect the SUV compact to be priced between Rs 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom).
Commenting on the name of the SUV, Manohar Bhat, Head – Marketing and Sales, Kia Motors India said, “Seltos is all set to redefine the mid-SUV car segment with its eye-catching looks, exclusive segment first features and athletic design.”
He further added, “We have spent a lot of time in perfecting our car to suit the taste of the Indian customers and I am glad that this originally India intended car is so perfect that it compelled us to make Seltos available globally. The car looks absolutely stunning and very closely matches the SP concept we showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. I am confident that Kia Seltos would be an outright favorite when it hits the roads in the next few months.”
