Paris Motor Show displayed a lot of electric vehicles and Kia also stepped in the game. Hyundai’s sister brand Kia showcased Kia e-Niro all-electric crossover Suv.
Kia made some strong claims about the range of the e-Niro. Kia claims 301 miles on the European WLTP combined testing cycle. The range of around 485 is a quite healthy range in this segment. It will be one of the longest range EVs if it can achieve the figures in real life. You need to opt for an optional 64 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and a regenerative braking system.
The e-Niro can also go 615 km on the WLTP urban cycle if you stick to urban conditions. You can also opt for a cheaper 39.2 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, with a range of up to 312 km. It comes with a 100 kW fast charger, which can charge the e-Niro’s 64 kWh battery from 20 to 80% in 42 minutes.
The bigger 64kWh version features an electric motor producing 204bhp of power and 395Nm torque. 0-100km/h comes in 7.8 seconds. While the standard 39.2kWh battery pack will reach 0-100km/h in 9.8 seconds.
Dimension wise e-Niro is 4.4m long and has a respectable boot of 450-litre. LED daytime running lights as well as new LED light design. Also, Kia offers 17-inch alloy wheels.
Coming to the inside there is a mood lighting system illuminating the center console and shift dial in one of six colors – white, grey, bronze, red, green, and blue. A 7″ inch infotainment system and a 7″ screen color screen in the instrument cluster.
The e-Niro comes with an optional advanced driver assistance system, offering level 2 autonomy to keep it in the lane and follow another car. Like if you stop accelerating at a particular point as you come to a stop so that you can coast and allow the vehicle to harvest energy via the regenerative tech. Steering wheel paddles that let the driver tap three levels (Normal, Eco and Sport) of energy recuperation. Furthermore, the e-Niro is only offered with Front wheel drive.
Kia offers a 7-year 100,000-mile guarantee. The car will enter production in the second quarter of 2018 and go on sale in select European markets by the end of 2018.
