The most affordable liter-class supersport, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R gets a price rise. The price of the motorcycle is up by INR 1.5 lakh bringing it to INR 14.3 lakh. It still is the cheapest liter-class supersport in India, undercutting the Honda Fireblade by a significant amount(INR 16.8 lakh).
The Japanese surprised the Indian market by discounting the ZX-10R by INR 6 lakh due to localization. The bike cost INR 18 lakh before as a fully imported model. This made it the most affordable 1000cc supersport bike in the Indian market at INR 12.8 lakh. The company had made it clear that the unrealistically low price was for a limited time. As said, they have increased the price now.
The super low price attracted many buyers bringing in over 100 orders in just a mere 15 days. This number is more than the total amount of ZX-10R the company has sold to date. The demand was so high that Kawasaki had to instruct its dealers to stop bookings.
The direct competitor to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is the Honda Fireblade. The Fireblade is priced at INR 16.8 lakh. The ZX-10R still undercuts the Fireblade by a significant amount.
The ZX-10R runs on a 998cc inline-four cylinder engine. The engine is mated with a 6 speed gearbox with slipper clutch. It produces 204 bhp of peak power and over 110Nm torque. The motorcycle also sports Brembo brakes and Showa balance free forks, bi-directional quick shifter, riding modes, traction control, and ABS.
Kawasaki is localizing most of their models to boost the sales figures in the Indian market. The company started by localizing the Ninja 300 model in their Chakan plant, bringing the price down by a lot.
Also, the performance oriented Kawasaki ZX-10RR also gets a price hike of INR 88,000. This brings the cost of it up to INR 16.8 lakh.
