Jawa BS6 revealed - drops power and gains weight

After a delay of a couple of months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Classic Legends Jawa BS6 and Jawa 42 BS6 are here. And to some level of disappointment, the new model gains extra weight while losing some power. Classic Legends has already begun the bookings and deliveries of the latest version of the nostalgic motorcycle.

The motorcycle runs on a 293cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine. The outgoing BS4 version of Jawa and Jawa 42 produced 27.37PS along with 28Nm of max torque. But the Jawa BS6 version drops the power output to 26.51 PS and the max torque to 27.05 Nm. The new engines are modeled after the Euro 6 emission norms which generally see a drop in power.

The new models also add a weight of 2kg, bringing the total curb weight to 172kg. A new exhaust design also catches attention, albeit not a pleasant one. Gone is the retro charm of the complete chrome finish. Instead, we now see a new downpipe design with an additional catalytic converter. The change is to adapt to the BS6 norms. The whole new system adds length to the downpipes which are solved by routing each side of the downpipe to the other side of the motorcycle under the belly. This might also increase the chances of scraping the exhaust pipes.
