The serial number for the locomotive was 60027, and it travelled with 118 wagons to Barwadih. You can see in the video, that the locomotive is hauling 100+ wagons effortlessly. It even attained a speed of 120km/hr during the run. It has hauling power of 6,000 tonnes!

This locomotive is a part of a much bigger project of Indian railways. Madhepura Electric Locomotive Pvt. Ltd. (MELPL) is a joint venture of Indian Railways and Alstom (French locomotive company). The plan is to manufacture as much as 80 units of fully electric high powered locomotives over a period of 11 years.

Another interesting point is that this locomotive is being called the ‘green loco’, why so? It gets LED lamps for a starter, it works on low voltage cables as well as it gets regenerative braking, something that we have been getting in hybrid cars. The whole idea of this project and locomotive is to switch from coal train to electric ones. These new locomotive additions are cleaner, safer as well as faster. The future of Indian Railway looks very bright and fast.
