FTR? Flat Track Racer. Yes, Indian has made it possible to get us a bike based on their Flat Tracker. From the Flat Track to right up to the streets the FTR 1200 and 1200 S are here.
So what’s special about these bikes. The DNA, they are based on the FTR750, which is Indian’s flat-track championship race bike. The FTR750 has been ruling the American Flat Track races since its launch. There are two variants FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S with a price of Rs 16 Lakh and 18 Lakh respectively (ex-showroom).
Let’s talk power first, the engine mill which powers the FTR. A 1203 cc, V-twin engine making 120bhp and 120Nm of peak torque at 6000rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, with slip assist clutch. The bike also gets a host of electronics including Bosch stability control, three riding modes, cruise control, 6-axis IMU, wheelie control, ride-by-wire and cornering ABS. Phew!
The bike gets all LED lights all around, 4.3″ Ride Command Touchscreen with all the electronics feature. It also gets a USB fast-charging port. The fuel tank is 13 litres. You get fully adjustable front and rear suspension. The front has a 43mm separate cartridge USD fork and rear is a mono-shock. Brembo brakes are used for the stopping power, twin 320mm, 4-piston discs in the front and a single 260mm disc at the rear. The bike also gets single-sided upswept twin exhausts.
Indian has also partnered with Orix Indian for leasing options for the bike. So you can lease the bike for Rs 39,999 a month. So it’s a great way to experience the FTR if you don’t have enough money. For those who have the money to afford one, the booking amount is Rs 2 Lakh. So if you crave the Flat Track bikes or want something different the FTR series is great for standing out and experiencing something different from Indian.
