The sunroof glass is the latest trend in new generation cars. It draws sunlight into a car and gives a great appearance as well. Although, recent incidents have given a shock to the sunroof car owners. Recently, a Hyundai Tucson owner has faced drastic sunroof glass explosions. So, will the new feature end in new cars due to safety reasons or the automotive company will work on to fix the flaw.
Mark Barsoum has reported the incident. He has suggested Hyundai customers regarding the probability of the sunroof which is just above their heads that can abruptly break while driving the car. This can be due to vibrations, but it clearly defines the vulnerability of the sunroof. Barsoum has posted a video and pictures which is really disturbing.
Barsoum said that while driving the Tucson, he heard a loud explosion and the sunroof showered in glass. He was driving the car on Highway 427 in Toronto when the incident happened. It seems like someone shot a bowling ball on the car, but it happened suddenly. Although, this is not the first case when the sunroof has shattered without any reason. There are other car customers with sunroof who have reported such situations.
Due to some external force, the glass flowed behind the vehicle into the route of other cars. Barsoum and his wife were terrified by the incident. Fortunately, they didn’t get injured. The Hyundai Tucson was purchased two years earlier and has been driven about 40,000kms. The owner has reached the Hyundai’s showroom for warranty purpose. However, the worst part is that the sunroof worth $800 was not covered in the warranty.
So, Barsoum has to demand insurance for the repairing of the broken sunroof. The main cause of the sunroof shattering incidents is assumed to be the contaminated glass. Regarding the incidents, Hyundai Canada declared that its vehicles are trustworthy. However, if the same incidents are repeated, the customers will lose trust over the popular car maker in future.
Hyundai said, “Nothing is more important to Hyundai than the safety and security of our customers. Hyundai stands behind the quality of our products and this is demonstrated through our long-standing and industry-leading five-year warranty that has benefited many Canadian consumers and continues to be a significant statement of confidence in the quality and safety of our vehicles”.
Not only Hyundai cars but some other popular car models have also faced the same situations which involve Kia, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. The statements have been reported in the highway safety agency’s files. These companies appear to be unsafe to the automatic breaking of the glass roof. There are several lawsuits filed by Hyundai car owners which remain unsolved.
