Hyundai India is all set to start a contest on 16th of August where the customers can suggest the suffix that they want to be added to ‘Santro’ while naming the new hatchback. The name will be revealed on 4th of October followed by the official launch sometime during the last week of the same month.
The suffix will be somewhat like the ‘Xing” which followed the moniker in the facelift version. The Kia had also launched a naming contest where the customers and followers suggested name for the SP concept which will be hitting the market sometime in 2019. The Eon will be replaced by this upcoming Santro.
The car has the characteristic “tallbay” design. There are large glass panels on the windows. The rear window and the C pillar bears similarity to the discontinued Hyundai i10. The car is supposed to run on wheel caps with steel rims to cut down the price, hence confirming on the “low cost” idea. Design language with strong lines, LED DRLs and the full-face grille seen on the facelifted Grand i10 are the characteristic features of the four wheeler.
The car is expected to run on a 800 cc and 1.0 litre petrol and petrol & CNG three cylinder engines which is a normal kind of thing for cars in this segment. Automatic and AMT versions will both be offered with the engine. Equipment like airbags, climate control system, ABS and a touchscreen infotainment system are naturally expected looking into way the company, Hyundai, works.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto and Renault Kwid are the B-segment rivals of the new Hyundai wonder. The Alto have not seen much success but the Kwid has been a hit. The Eon too has not been of much business, lets hope Hyundai gets a better prospect with this redesigned lineup. The Tata Tiago might also be a probable competition. The car might come at a price range of Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 5 lakhs.
