Pictures of the new Hyundai Santro surface online before its official launch. The new hatchback codenamed AH2 is garnering a lot of hype online. The car will be revealed on 9th October and to go on sale after 23rd October. The leaked images appear to be taken at a Hyundai dealership.
New Hyundai Santro Design
The pictures only reveal a part of the design as most of it still is covered. But it gives us a clear picture of the design language Santro is using with this car. As seen the pictures, the car gets a red/orange shade paint job. The headlights are sharp and go all the way back to the fenders. The front grille stands out with a new design. It is using Hyundai’s ‘cascading grille’ design and is unusually big. The grille also gets chrome outlining. A black surround with the grille does not help with the already huge grille. The fog lamp position is higher up – right below the headlights.
The car follows the ‘tall boy’ design as seen in the design sketches. The rear of the new Hyundai Santro is very similar to the likes of the Hyundai Eon. Small tail lamps help the tailgate to be wider. We can also see a large rear windshield which helps in rear visibility. The number plate appears to be positioned on the bumper – similar to the Eon and the Grand i10. The model spotted also had a rear wiper and a high-set auxiliary brake lamp.
The interior of the car is also well designed. The cabin is seen in a dual-tone finish with a distinct beige-on-black color scheme. A touchscreen infotainment system is seen sitting on the dashboard. It is flanked on either side with large vertical air-con vents. But the vents on the extreme ends are circular and reminiscent of the older model. Climate control system is placed below the infotainment system and is equipped with traditional knob controls.
The new Santro will run on Hyundai’s 1.1-litre Epsilon petrol engine. It is paired with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. It is claimed to have a fuel efficiency figure of 20.1kmpl. The new Santro is the first Hyundai car to feature an AMT gearbox. This will help Hyundai put out an affordable automatic hatchback at a competitive price. The car will compete against cars like Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Datsun RediG, and the Tata Tiago.
