What started off as the Carlino concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo is close to hitting the showroom floors. Upon Launch, the Hyundai Qxi compact SUV will rival the likes of Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV 300. Hyundai has teased the upcoming compact SUV which is based on the Carlino concept.
It is evident from the spy photos, that the SUV will feature a silhouette similar to that of the Creta. The official teaser from Hyundai has confirmed the same. True to Hyundai tradition, the SUV will be loaded with features. The SUV will feature sunroof as seen in the teaser video, at least on the top spec variant.
What to expect from the Hyundai Qxi
It will also feature the split DRL and headlamp setup as seen on the Harrier. We can also expect the top spec variants to feature projector headlamps and LED tail lamps. Other features might include diamond cut alloys, ventilated seats, a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV might also get disc brakes on all 4 sides.
In terms of safety, the SUV is expected to get Dual airbags, ABS with EBD as standard across all variants. The top spec variants might get 7 airbags and a reverse camera.
The SUV will come with three engine options. 1.0L, 3 Cylinder engine, a 1.4L 4 Cylinder Petrol (100PS /132Nm) and a 1.4 L Diesel engine (90PS / 220Nm). The latter two are shared with the Hyundai Verna. What’s interesting here is the 1 Litre engine will be paired to a 7 Speed Dual Clutch Transmission and will churn 100 BHP and 172 Nm of torque.
Considering the features it packs, expect the Hyundai Qxi SUV to be priced competitively with Mahindra XUV 300. At this pricing, the Nexon and the Vitara Brezza will undercut the Hyundai Qxi.
The SUV will make its global debut in the New York Auto show to be held from April 19, where we will get to know what it will be called.
