Hyundai’s first electric SUV has been spied testing on our Indian roads. Revealed few months ago Hyundai Kona will be the first fully-electric SUV from Hyundai’s stable. It will come to India in 2019. Bought to India by the CKD route and will be assembled at the Chennai plant.

It is available in the international markets with two battery packs options. A smaller 39 kW battery pack with 312 km range and a bigger 64 kW battery which can go up to 482 km on a single charge. Hyundai is expected to bring the 39 kW version makes 136nhp and 395 Nm of peak torque. It does 0-100 km/hr in 9.7 seconds with a top speed of 155 km/hr. The bigger 64kW unit makes around 201bhp and does a ton in 9.3 seconds.

However, the Korean brand is looking at locally assembling the Kona EV using CKD units in order to keep costs at around the Rs 25 lakh mark (ex-showroom).

The 39 kW battery pack takes around 6 Hours 10 minutes to charge completely while the 64kW pack takes around 9 hours. Hyundai provides a fast charger which can charge the Kona up to 80% in 1 hour.

On the outside, it gets striking sleek LED headlamps, an outer line for grille which appears to be closed. At the rear, it gets the Kona badging, a lip spoiler and heavy cladding housing the fog lamps. Dimension looks almost as big as a Creta and It continues the same Hyundai fluidic design. It gets 17″ inch alloy wheels. It has a reduced boot space from the standard Kona 373-litre boot space to 332 litres.

In the interior, it features a 7″ inch infotainment touchscreen, a heads-up display, ventilated front seats. 8-way adjustable electric seats and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Hyundai Kona Electric Spotted Testing In India – Launch in 2019Internationally Kona gets a lot of safety features. Including blind spot alert, adaptive cruise control, a lane centring system, automatic emergency braking. Though we are not sure that Hyundai will offer all these features in India or not.

Hyundai plans to sell 1000 units of Kona by 2019. Hyundai Kona SUV will kick-start the future for electric SUV in India with an expected price around 25 lakhs.
