We all love reliable Hondas, while Honda has dominance in the scooter market with the Activa. The sub 500cc bike portfolio has been lacking with the age-old CBR 250, and the new kid CBR300R. Although the later is more expensive according to what it offers. Now at least the pricing point can be sorted out as Honda is planning to manufacture them locally from this year.

Honda has a total of six products in the premium bike segment. Starting all the way from CB300R and going all the way to the huge Goldwing. CBR 1000RR, CBR Fireblade and Goldwing all come as completely built-up units (CBUs), while the recently launched Africa Twin, CBR 650R, as well as the smaller CB300R, comes through CKD(Completely knocked down) route. No wonder these are amazing motorcycles but the pricing is not as competitive as the competition.

So to address this Honda has planned to start mass production of some of its premium bikes in India. Specifically one bike under 500cc, which as of now only happens to be the CB300R. Local production means huge savings on tax and better pricing, even with CKD option the CB300R sold well, so we can expect it to sell more with a reduced price and BS6 compatible engine.

Honda can also start producing the Rebel 500 series locally in India right from the start. Honda has a good lineup for 500cc bikes including CBR500R, CB500X. As per Honda, it will be a mixed bag of CKD, CBU and mass production to expand the premium bikes range India.

Honda will also focus on bringing a premium showroom experience for customers. They will expand the range of their Big Wing dealership exclusive stores by the end of this year. We can see that Honda is really trying to bring its international portfolio to India along with the premium experience one should have. They have seen the demand for premium products in India and are ready to invest in the right direction.
