Honda e Prototype is an adorable electric urban hatchback from Honda’s stables. The pop-out door handles, tiny ORVM cameras all add to a certain character of the car. Looks aside, the car also features a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, rear-wheel drive, and a low center of gravity. And no, this is not a race car we are talking about here.
Honda e Prototype tech:
The design of the car also shows that the car is designed more for a city commute. It runs on a 35.5 kWh Lithium-ion battery. This is good for a mere 200 kilometers (124 miles) range. This is not the best number in the EV industry in comparison with rivals like Renault Zoe (387 kilometers), Nissan Leaf e+ (361 kilometers) and the Tesla Model 3 (354 kilometers). However, this range is sufficient for most city commutes, which is the target audience for Honda.
The Honda e Prototype has an electric motor which produces 148 hp and 300 Nm torque. This coupled with a rear wheel drive system and an extremely small turning radius of 4.3m makes this a great fun city car. It can also reach 0-100kmph in an impressive 8 seconds.
The Honda e Prototype features a futuristic design which also gives a nod to Honda’s heritage in a good way. The car has futuristic bits like the pop-out handles and camera for ORVMs. It also has five screens to look at on the inside, two of them are for the aforementioned ORVMs. One sits behind the steering wheel housing the instrument clusters. Two more sit on the console for navigation and entertainment. The heritage bits come in the form of wood (probably veneer) trim on the interiors. The simple oval front end with circular headlamps also add a certain charm to the car.
The car is expected to be priced at around $45,000. This is approximately Rs 31 lakh. Yes, this is definitely on the higher side. The car is priced higher than even the Tesla Model 3.
