Honda is going all in for the festive season. After launching the New Amaze in May. Today Honda has launched the new CR-V 2018. Just a brief history about the CR-V. 1st Gen CR-V launched in 1995. It has been the 2nd most largely selling Honda globally. Selling a total of 10 Million units over 5 generations. Even the 5th Gen CR-V has sold over 0.7 million units till now globally.
In 2003, CR-V came to India and has sold over 17,600 units till now. The only downside to the CR-V was not having a diesel. SUV market is dominated by the diesel. But now Honda seems to come to its senses and finally launch CR-V with a Diesel mill. As Honda calls it the “The Ultimate Urban SUV”. Honda said their SUV is for the more sophisticated customer.
The Grand concept as Honda calls it with three keywords Wow, Dynamic and sophisticated.
To increase comfort Honda has reduced wind noise using flat wiper. To lower cabin noise they used liquid sealed transmission and side mount. The driver gets an advance full size color TFT meter with real-time driving information. It also gets and all-wheel drive torque indicator. It visually displays torque distribution to individual wheels. A driver attention monitor system first time exclusive to CR-V. Which issues an alert and warns the driver with steering vibration. A 7-inch infotainment system with Apple car play and android auto.
A wider body by extending shoulder and fenders. A long bonnet hood by retracting the front pillar. Hip up rear combination lamp. Larger sized alloys, and thick door panels. Coming to the lighting. CR-V gets led lights all over. LED turn lights stacked vertically with stop lights looks amazing. 54% of the body is made with high tensile steel for more rigidity.
This is the first time Honda CR-V is offering the 3rd row. 2nd row has 150 mm slide provision. The space for 3rd row has been made by moving the fuel tank towards the front. It also provides space to accommodate a full-size spare tire and also providing reclining provision for the 3rd row. Maximum loading space is 1830 mm for two row config and 1800 mm in 3-row config. You can keep long objects like bicycles surf boats and lot more cargo. The boot has two different height for loading upper mode and lower mode.
The CR-V comes with two engine options. A 2.0-liter petrol with 154ps at 6,500 rpm and 189Nm of torque at 4300rpm It is mated to a 6-speed CVT. Honda claims an efficiency of 14.4 km/l for the petrol variant. And the most anticipated Diesel i-Dtec 1.6 turbo engine with 120 ps at 4,000 rpm and 300Nm at 2,000 rpm. The engine is a bit detuned from the international version. Also for the first time it comes mated to 9-speed automatic transmission. Honda claims fuel efficiency of 19.5km/l for the 2wd variant and 18.3km/l for the AWD variant. A real-time AWD system with increased rear torque capacity and hill-start assist.
Conventional shift lever in the Diesel has been replaced with buttons. Electronic hand brake and auto brake hold function is also there. First in class Lane watch camera for blind spot detection, multi-angle rear-view camera, Panoramic sunroof.
On the safety front, the CR-V gets 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating. It gets two new colors lunar silver and radiant red. Honda offers Standard warrant 3 years unlimited km warranty. Further expandable up to 5 years at some premium.
Honda has kept a uniform ex-showroom price all over India. Petrol CR-V starts at 28 lakhs. 2wd diesel costs 30.65 lakhs. And top of the line diesel 4wd will cost 32.75 lakhs. It competes with the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, and the Skoda Kodiaq.
