Fifth Generation Honda City was about to be launched yesterday in an event in Goa. But as with most of the events nowadays, Honda called off the event due to the Coronavirus outbreak. While there is no new date for the event, we have a spec sheet leaked by TeamBHP which has all the details about the upcoming Honda City.
Let’s go through the documents and see what fifth-generation Honda City has to offer. First of all, let’s talk about the only engine on offer. There is only one engine mentioned in the document which is the 1.5L petrol motor, there is no diesel specs or variant listed.
As of now, only the Hyundai Verna offers a diesel in the segment. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the new Honda City now will only come with a petrol motor. Although Honda should offer the 1.5L Diesel, as the engine is already made BS6 compliant on Amaze, though we will have to wait until the launch to clear that.
So the 1.5L i-VTEC petrol motor makes 119hp at 6,600 rpm. The New Honda City will get three variants – V, VX and ZX. The engine will come mated to manual as well as CVT option. The Dimension of the car has also been revealed, it is 4549 long, 1748mm wide and 1,489mm high. The CVT variant is 20mm longer than the manual. The wheelbase stands at 2,600mm. The 5th gen Honda City is longer (109mm), wider(53mm) than before, while the wheelbase remains the same. It weighs around 1,482 kg to 1,528kg.
The 5th Gen Honda City has everything new going for it, the front design with new LED headlamps, new grille, and the rear end looks completely different with new LED tail lamps. In fact, the inside also gets major changes such as an 8-inch infotainment system, cruise control, TPMS, 4 airbags, traction control and inbuilt Alexa.
Fifth Gen Honda City will be launched soon, we expect Honda to either hold an event later this month or organize an online live event for the launch. When launched it will compete with other sedans, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna.
