All New Honda City 5th Generation - Features And Specs Revealed

After rather a long wait, Honda has launched the fifth generation City in India today. The famous mid-size sedan is now available in three trims V, VX and ZX and will be sold along side the 4th generation Honda City. Prices for the lower end petrol trim starts at INR 10.90 lakhs and the petrol CVT model tops at INR 14.45 Lakhs. Sadly, the CVT gearbox is only available in the petrol variants. The pricing of the base variant diesel starts at INR 12.40 Lakhs and the top end ZX variant will set you back by INR 14.65 Lakhs.

So, What’s under the hood?

We get two engine options for the 5th Gen City. One is the 1.5L DOHC diesel engine that has been updated to meet the BS6 norms. The diesel engine currently develops a 100 bhp and and 200 Nm of torque. On the other hand, we have a 1.5L Naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine that develops 121 bhp and 145 Nm. The 6 Speed Manual transmission is a standard on both petrol and diesel motors, whereas the CVT box is available only in the petrol variants of the city.

Okay. How big is the new City?

The 5th gen City stands at 4,549mm X 1,748mm X1,489mm (LxWxH), and the wheelbase is 2600mm long. The new City is 109mm longer than the 4th Gen city. It is also 53mm wider and has the same wheelbase but,it is 6mm shorter in height than the 4th gen City. The new City’s boot capacity is 506 litres.

What do I get for my money?

The top of the trim ZX has full LED headlamps with LED DRLs, 16-inch alloys, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto. Going with the connected car trend, Honda has introduced the Honda Connect telematics system with 32 connected car features and Alexa remote capability (a first in country). We also get a 7.0-inch colour MID, automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, keyless entry with push button start/stop, paddle-shifters and remote engine start (sadly, on the CVT only).

Will the City keep me safe?

With the safety features becoming the talk of the town rather than the mileage, Honda city doesn’t disappoint. Safety features for top-spec City include six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability assist, agile handling assist, hill-start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, Honda’s LaneWatch camera (again, a segment-first), ISOFIX child-seat mounts, rear parking camera, and auto headlamps and wipers. Honda also offers a 3-year/unlimited km warranty pack as standard.
