Most of the Indian automobile brands have had a tie up with the others except for one, the Hero MotoCorp. But news has it that they might soon be joining a partnership soon, with none other than the Ducati. After Bajaj shaking hands with the KTM and Triumph and TVS joining the BMW squad, Hero seemed to be the only one left.
The 300 cc single cylinder liquid cooled fuel injected engine will be designed by Ducati, along with the chassis powertrain and other important components, whereas the production and distribution duties would be handled by the Hero MotoCorp. A set of two bikes with the same engine unit but different design is pretty much expected from the partnership, somewhat like the BMW G 310R and the G 310GS. Most likely the Italian manufacturer would feature something like a Scrambler for the cheaper version and a mini Multistrada as its expensive counterpart. Not much ago, Hero MotoCorp denied its involvement in the Harley Davidson’s plan of production of 250-500 cc cruiser motorbikes. Although its new Centre for Innovation and Technology set in Jaipur indicates to a much larger plan of action for capturing the international market.
Also, knowing that the ambitious Hero has some serious international goals, it might use the mechanicals, electricals and other brand new technologies like the MotoGP honed engineering expertise of the Italian brand. This would cut down the cost by a large margin. Hero’s well designed manufacturing set ups would also be on the table for Ducati. On the other hand the Ducati might sell its products through Hero dealerships which is easier than setting up high end showrooms in various towns. Although they might sell their motorcycles with both the company’s logo branded on them through their respective outlets. It seems like a win win partnership, but lets see who grabs more.
