The American bike maker, Harley-Davidson has unwrapped two new bikes in the Indian market today. The bikes are known as Forty-Eight Special and Street Glide Special. These models are already available in the international market with some top-specs. The performance bikes were unveiled officially in 2018. The all-new models are part of the company’s project to reveal 100 latest models in the coming five years.

The all-new Forty-Eight Special has received a 7.25-inches ‘tallboy’ handlebar and an attractive theme inspired by the 70’s models. The retro-modern look is seen on the new body colour, exhaust, tank, and modified comfortable seat. It has received a dark custom style theme. This is the standard model of the Special series which comes with some standard features like LED indicator lights and a new handlebar-mounted electronic speedometer which features odometer, time-of-day clock, dual trip meter, low fuel warning light, and low oil pressure light.

In terms of mechanical specs, the Forty-Eight Special is powered by a powerful 1,202 cc Harley-Davidson Evolution engine which churns out 98.9 Nm of peak torque. This model is revealed in three exciting shades: white, red and black. The new model comes with 130mm front tire framed by 49mm forks. It also features emulsion rear shock screw adjuster and sits on split 9-Spoke Cast Aluminium Wheels.

Regarding the top-specs Street Glide Special, the company has done a brilliant job with the husky looking bike which gets a massive duty bagger. The complete body is coloured in a single classy shade which looks great. It is equipped with an all-new instrument panel, engine cover, exhaust pipes and the suspension forks highlighting black finish. It also features 2.5 cubic-feet panniers polish on the chassis. It comes with 6.5-inch Boom Box GTS touchscreen infotainment system and stretched saddlebags as well.

The all-new Street Glide Special is integrated with an extremely powerful Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine which improves the power figure as well as performance. It is powered by a 1,868 cc V-twin motor which delivers of max power and 165 Nm of peak torque at 3,000 rpm. It comes with a kerb weight of approximately 380 kg. In India, this bike will be imported as a CBU unit although, this didn’t affect the price.

Price & Rivals

Harley-Davidson India has completed successfull 10 years in the Indian market and they operate 33 bike showrooms and 10 lifestyle stores here. Commenting on the new launch, Sajeev Rajasekharan, MD, Harley-Davidson India said, “Harley-Davidson was one of the earliest entrants in the premium motorcycle category in India. Completing 10 years in India just the beginning as we remain the cruiser of choices for many riders. With the all-new Forty-Eight Special, Harley-Davidson India takes its motorcycle line up to 17 models”.

The company has introduced the Forty-Eight Special at a price tag of Rs. INR 10,98,000 (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the top-specs husky Street Glide Special comes at an expensive price tag of INR 30,53,000 (ex-showroom). The bookings have been already started in all the Harley dealerships and the deliveries will begin soon this week. The Forty-Eight Special rival against the Indian Scout Bobber and the Street Glide Special compete against the likes of Indian Chieftain, in India.
