Google Maps Stay Safer feature starts rolling out for Indian users

Google introduces a new feature in Google Maps for the Indian Users. This new Stay Safer feature hopes to help users travel safer in rickshaws and taxis. The feature is currently rolling out only for Android users in India.

The new feature works in two different ways. The first option allows the Stay Safer uses to share their live trip with friends and family. This can be done directly on other third party applications. Friends and family can monitor the whereabouts then and assure the safety of the user too.

The second option, on the other hand, works a little differently. This option, when selected gives the user a very prominent alert if the driver goes more than 0.5km from the suggested route. The users can then compare the route the driver is taking with the recommended route for further action

This feature is trying to make users feel and stay safe while using taxi services. It offers some sort of peace of mind to the users. Amanda Bishop, Product Manager, Google Maps said, “Through our extensive research across India, we found that a lot of people limit their mobility due to safety-related concerns. To address this, we are launching another India-first feature that will deliver a more relevant and reliable experience to use our product”.

The Stay Safer feature is currently only available to Android users in India. It is not sure when the feature will roll out to iOS user or the rest of the world.
