Ford goes all Electric with the new Mustang Mach E SUV

Mustang? Electric? SUV? This isn’t something any of us expected but here it is. An electric Mustang Mach E SUV. This might disappoint Mustang purists but it is definitely a step in the right direction. The new SUV will compete against the Tesla Model Y.

Although the new Mach E shares its badge with Mustang, it borrows very few design elements from it. We can see similar Mustang headlamps and tail lamps. But apart from the overall design is significantly different. Of course, we are now talking about an SUV and not a sleek sports car. We now get an enclosed front grille at the front along with the sleek headlamps. The roof also elegantly slopes down, completing the look. There are no door handles either. Instead we now get remote smartphone unlock which senses proximity or we can use a keypad built into the B-pillar of the SUV.

The interior, however, is a completely different story. It looks nothing like the Mustangs but instead features a very modern and minimal look. The center console features a huge 15.5 inch touch screen display which handles infotainment functions and also the car settings. The rest of the dashboard is also minimal with very few buttons and AC vents cleverly integrated into it.

The Mach E will be available with 2 battery options and many variants. The incredible 300 mile range is only available in 2 variants – California Route 1 AWD with extended range and Premium RWD with extended range. The other models can see range as low as 210 miles. Below is a complete breakdown of all available models. The select variant offers lowest performance with 255HP and 414Nm torque with the RWD and 581Nm torque with the AWD. The GT performance is the best performing variant but we do not have the further details.
