Earlier last month Ford had made an appearance of the Ford Freestyle Pseudo crossover. It is now all set to hit the roads with the Figo-based car in the Indian small car market, the Ford Figo Cross, which has been spotted a few days ago parked near the company’s corporate office in Cyber Hub, Gurgaon. It was supposed to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2018. However, Ford was amongst the brands who opted out from the participation in Auto Expo 2018.
The Freestyle is more or less a rugged version of the Figo hatchback. It has a mean and sturdy outward appearance with 6 spoke black alloy wheels, roof rails, plastic cladding, new color options, many chrome appliqués and a hexagonal mesh grille accentuated by sculpted bumper, fog lamps and split racing strips on the bonnet. The interior is similar to that of the Figo Facelift coming up very soon. The infotainment unit used is 6.5 inch touchscreen SYNC3, like we have seen in Endeavour, Mustang and Ford EcoSport recently. Although LED projectors and day time running lights are missing from the car but it is not a big deal. The ABS, EBD and dual front bag features complete the picture.
Ford Freestyle will also be known for the launch of the new 1.2 liter petrol engine from Ford’s Dragon series, which is a Ti-VCT 3 cylinder unit and offers a 95bhp and a maximum torque of 120Nm. The full aluminum engine is made according to the emission norms and is 10% lighter than Figo’s regular ones. The buyers will also have an option to choose the 100HP diesel engine too. It will have 100PS/215Nm torque. In both cases the motor is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The fuel efficiency is 20kmpl for petrol and 26kmpl for diesel. The tank capacity is 42 liters.
The price of the car is expected to be Rs. 5-8 Lakhs (ex-Showroom).This car will attract rivals like Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and segment leading Hyundai i20 Active upon its launch. Although the previous crossovers haven’t gathered much limelight, this one is expected to take the stage by storms.
