Fifth Gen Honda City Scores 5 Stars Rating In ASEAN NCAP

Fifth Generation Honda City was all set to come to India, but the launch event got delayed due to COVID-19 outbreak. But we shared you the dimensions of the new car, along with the variants. Today, we have the crash test rating result from the ASEAN NCAP. And it is good news because the car has scored a perfect 5-star rating.

So the Honda City which was tested is Thai-spec fifth-generation 2020 model in SV variant. The variant comes with 1.0L turbo petrol motor, there are very fewer chances of this engine to come in Indian variants. This was the third assessment of Honda CIty model on ASEAN NCAP, first and second assessments were conducted in 2012 and 2014 and both of them scored 5-star ratings.

The fifth-generation Honda City scored 44.83 points in Adult Occupant Protection(AOP), 22.82 points in Child Occupant Protection(COP) 18.89 points in Safety Assist tech (SATs). Which makes it score a total rating of 86.54 and eligible of 5 -Star rating. The car came with a host of safety equipment such as four airbags, Seatbelt Reminder System for both frontal occupants and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard across all of City’s variants in Thailand. It also gets an optional Emergency Stop Signal technology.

While we cannot say that the India-spec Honda City will score the same results, it still provides us with some sense of safety when considering to buy one of these. India launch is soon on the cards after the COVID-19 pandemic goes away. In India, it will get some changes related to more ground clearance and other cosmetic changes. The design is all new with front design with new LED headlamps, new grille, and new LED tail lamps. On the inside, it gets major changes such as an 8-inch infotainment system, cruise control, TPMS, 4 airbags, traction control and inbuilt Alexa.

We will get two engine options – a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol motor which makes 119hp at 6,600 rpm which will be mated to a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. It will also get the BS6 compliant 1.5L i-DTEC. It will compete against Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
