Fiat Chrysler is quiet unhappy with production of the Mahindra Roxor SUV and has desired to ban the on the import of this vehicle to the US markets. Fiat Chrysler is the Jeep’s parent company. The company has filed a complaint to the US International Trade Commission against the Mahindra. The compliant was filed under section 337 of US Traffic Act of 1930. Fiat reported that the Mahindra SUV borrows design elements from the original Willy’s Jeep used in World War II and Fiat Chrysler also claims that the Roxor is a copy of the original Willy’s Jeep.
The US Trade Commission will conduct an enquiry based on the complaint launched by the Fiat Chrysler. Fiat Chrysler claims that the Mahindra Roxor SUV features the same boxy body shape, rear body design, hood height and flat vertical sides of the typical Willy’s Jeep. The Mahindra Roxor was introduced on 2nd March, 2018 and was on sale under Mahindra Automotive North America or MANA in the markets of US and Canada. The vehicle created a new sub category in the side x side power sports segment and carried a price tag of USD 15,000 onwards.
However, when the sales of the Roxor were increasing in global markets the Fiat Chrysler places the complaint against the Mahindra. But Mahindra has faced problem earlier in the US as well. A few years back, the official distributor of the company had brought them to the court and back then they had to shut their outlet and left the country. Therefore this the second time Mahindra is facing the problems in US auto markets. The Mahindra Roxor was engineered based on the Mahindra Thar but in order to give the vehicle a new refreshing look the designs were modified.
When the Roxor was launched Mahindra said, “ Roxor offers a simple, hard worn approach, featuring a steel body on a boxed steel frame, a heavy duty Mahindra turbo diesel 4 cylinder engine, and an automotive style 5 speed manual transmission. Roxor was conceived, designed and engineered and is being produced in Metro Detroit by Mahindra Automotive North America [MANA].”
