Ferrari unveiled its 50th convertible on 26th August at Pebble Beach, California. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider is an addition of the Ferrari’s best selling 488 line-up. The 488 Pista Spider is a performance version of the 488. This is a successor to the likes of the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, and 458 Speciale.
Ferrari 488 Pista Spider Engine and Performance:
The car sets new benchmarks for Ferrari. It sports a V8 engine which won the Best Engine title at the 2018 International Engine of the Year Awards. It runs on a 3902cc twin-turbo V8 motor. This produces over 720hp power and a peak torque of 770Nm.
This can make the Pista Spider reach 100kmph from standstill in just 2.8 seconds. This is extremely fast. However, this car is 0.4s slower than the regular 488 Pista to reach 200kmph. The car can also reach top speeds of up to 337kmph. Pista translates to ‘track’ in Italian and this car is built for the track.
There are not many differences from the regular 488 Pista except for the retractable roof. Other noticeable changes include new diamond-finish 20-inch alloy wheels with a novel 10-spoke star-effect. It also comes with optional one-piece carbon-fiber wheels that offer a 20-percent weight reduction over the standard forged alloys.
The 488 Pista Spider is also 90 kilograms heavier than the coupe due to the folding roof setup. So the carbon-fiber wheels on offer compensate this weight difference. It also includes standard Ferrari features like launch control, dynamic traction control settings, and firm chassis. Ferrari has included Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE), which offers intuitive, controllable and predictable driving experience.
The interior of the car is made using lightweight, pared-back components. This helps in further reducing the overall weight. It uses carbon-fiber and Alcantara throughout the interior. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider will cost more than $350,000 (INR 2.45 crore).
