Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Ertiga MPV, second generation, within a few months. But the company have decided to not discontinue the running model, which will now be offered in the cab only form of the entry level trim. The tour badge will be given to the model just like the Dzire sedan has it.
The current generation Ertiga will be offered in two engine options, 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet turbodiesel engine producing 89 bhp and 200 Nm, and the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol-CNG dual fuel engine. The car will only be available for the cab operator market. The second generation one will be based on the HEARTECT platform and there will be a considerable reduction in weight. The seven seater MPV will be 99 mm longer than the current model. ABS and dual-airbags are expected to be offered as standard.
1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine producing 106 PS power and 138 Nm torque will be installed in the new model of the Ertiga. A Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) mild hybrid is also on the line. The diesel engine will not see any modification. 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes are the available transmission options. The price of the new model will be a bit higher than the running one.
The new model has an expected launch date around December of the running year. The price will be ranged between Rs. 6.5 lakhs and Rs. 11 lakhs. Around 4000-5000 units of the MPV gets sold every month. Since its launch back in 2012, it has been able to sell of 7 lakhs of the car in the global market, although most of the business was given by the Indian automobile market. The Renault Lodgy is seen as the immediate rival of the current generation Ertiga.
