After introducing the all-new Venue, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is all set to unwrap the electric version of Kona on July 9. The new car will be driven by 39 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack capable. Perhaps, it is the lowest capacity electric car which will claim 350 km extent on a full single charge. The Kona EV is expected to get a price tag of nearly Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market.

The Kona EV has received an almost same designing just like the standard version, but to make it a bit different, the company has provided a new grille and alloy wheels. Otherwise, most of the exterior features look similar to the standard version. It will be the only premium top-spec variant available for Indian customers. It can come with lots of impressive features and comfort keeping the price in mind.

The new Kona will be integrated with leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play support and automatic climate control in the cabin which makes it more premium version. It will be also equipped with an LED projector headlamps along with DRL’s. The company will sell the new model as a limited variant, although, the production can be enhanced if it gets a good response from the fans.

Globally, the company sells Kona EV in two variants: a 39kW battery pack highlighting 312km and a 64kW unit featuring a 482km range on a single charge. The Indian version will be powered by a 39kW unit, which will be capable of generating 136hp of max power and 395Nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims a 0-100kph time of 9.7sec and a top speed at 155kph.

The car is developed with a lithium-ion battery pack which can get 80 per cent charge in just 54min via a 100kW DC fast charger, or 6hr 10min via a standard AC source. The company has also updated the 11 kW three-phase charger for fast charging through home power-souces and charging stations. It is offered with 7.2 kW onboard charger suitable for normal house sockets as well.

The Kona EV has already debuted in the country before the official launch. It will be the most expensive car for Hyundai for the Indian market. The premium electric SUV comes with many advanced features which makes it luxurious and costly as well. The company has imported the new variants via CKD route. It has been developed at the company’s Sriperumbudur facility, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
