“When you tell an engineer that you want an electric car with lots of range, they don’t immediately jump to SUV as their first choice for obvious reasons of physics,” Marc Lichte, Audi’s head of design, said to reporters before the reveal. “We wanted to create, for lack of a better term, a very normal car. We wanted a real SUV.”

Audi quoted, “It the only electric SUV built with Audi DNA”. That means it features signature Audi Quattro all-wheel drive along with long range abilities and quick charging time.

Powering the E-Tron are 2 Electric motors on both Front and Rear axles. The front motor produces 125kW of power, while the rear one produces 140kW of power. The car has 265kW of power in total. While Audi claims the car can do 0-60mph in around 6 seconds. There’s also a “Boost mode”. Which temporarily increases the performance to 300kW. In this mode, the car achieves 60mph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of around 124mph.

The company has not revealed official EPA range yet. But Audi previously gave an estimate of 400km as per WLTP standard.

Now comes the most anticipated part. Charging times? According to Audi, the E-Tron can charge up to 80% in 30 minutes using a 150kW high-speed public charger.

Exterior features significant Audi styling with Singleframe grill, and Sleek LED taillights. Audi introduced optional virtual side mirrors replacing the typical side mirror. In contrast, these mirrors will have cameras. So, instead of looking at the mirrors, the driver will look at OLED displays embedded on each door.  The E-Tron is 4,901 mm long, 1,935 mm wide, and 1,616 mm tall and wheelbase of 2,928 mm. With a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 lbs and total luggage capacity of 660 liters, E-Tron is a proper SUV.

Therefore, with a starting price of  $74,800, and refundable $1,000 for the waiting list, E-Tron makes Audi’s first step ahead in the upcoming electric future.
