The Peugeot, PSA’s luxury arm DS automobiles, DS 7 Crossback spied testing in Delhi for the first time.
With more and more car manufacturers setting up their shops in India, Peugeot is the latest to join the wagon. Peugeot’s connect with India goes back to the 90s when the carmaker’s 309 sedan was amongst the favorites of Indian car buyers. The group had announced its intentions to come back to India after decades. The Peugeot, Citroen owned Luxury brand DS 7 Crossback spied for the first time.
They have entered into a joint venture with The Birla group for this purpose. Earlier this year, The Peugeot and the Birla group set up their first Engine and Transmission manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamilnadu. PSA AVTEC Powertrain Pvt. Ltd., owns this plant, a 50:50 joint venture created in 2017 between Groupe PSA, France and AVTEC. The manufacturing plant has the capacity to engineer 2 lakh BSVI complaint engines per year and 3 lakh transmission units per year.
Now, for the very first time, the DS 7 Crossback, from the Group PSA’s luxury arm DS automobiles was spied testing in Delhi, sans camouflage. The car was caught doing speeds of about 90kmph in the early morning hours. The carmaker has intentions to begin it’s India operations by 2021. The carmaker might be evaluating the product for the Indian market and road conditions.
There are multiple engine options to choose from for the DS 7 in international market. A 1.2L, 3 cylinder petrol that puts out 128 BHP/ 230Nm, a 1.6L, 4 cylinder petrol that comes in 2 states of tune at 178 BHP/250 Nm and 221 BHP/300 Nm respectively. It is also powered by a 1.5L, 4 Cylinder diesel engine that puts out 128 BHP/300 Nm and a 2L, 4 Cylinder Diesel that churns out 174BHP/400 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engines are turbocharged and confirm to euro 6 norms. Transmission duties are done either by a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed auto. We are not clear what options will be available in the Indian market.
The DS 7 crossback comes with disc brakes are all 4 sides. The suspension setup is a MacPherson strut at the front and Multi-arm at the rear. The DS 7 measures 4,573mm X 1895mm X 1620mm (LxWxH). It has 555 litres of boot space which is expandable up to 1752 litres with the seats folded.
