MG Hector is the latest entrant the highly competitive SUV segment. The Hector has been unveiled recently and will be launched by June. It is the first ever car by MG in India and will come packed with a host of connectivity features. The Hector will directly rival the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Mahindra’s XUV 500. Hector Vs Rivals: Dimensions
At 4655mm, the Hector stands the longest among its rivals, followed by Harrier at 4598mm. The XUV measures 4585mm long and the Compass is the smallest at 4395mm.
At 1894mm, Harrier is the widest of them all, followed by XUV500 at 1890mm. The Hector, at 1835mm, comes third followed by the Compass at 1818mm. The XUV500 stands tall at 1785mm, followed by the Hector at 1760mm. Harrier, 1796mm tall comes in at the 3rd place followed by compass at 1640mm.
The Hector has the longest wheelbase of them at 2750mm. Combined with its length at 4655mm, we can expect the Hector to have best in class cabin space and boot space. The Harrier comes next with 2741mm followed by the XUV500 at 2700mm. The compass fares 4th at 2636mm.

Hector Vs Rivals Drivetrain: Diesel Engine
Three mammoths here, the MG Hector, Tata Harrier, and The Jeep Compass share the same 2.0L Diesel unit. They are sourced from Fiat but exist in a different state of tune in the three SUVs. The XUV500 gets the largest engine – a 2.2 L unit.
All the diesel units among the rivals are a 4 cylinder, turbocharged. The 2.0L unit in the Hector develops a 170hp and 350Nm of torque, whereas the same unit in the Compass develops a 173 hp and the 350Nm. Harrier, with the same unit, develops the lowest power among the four, at 140hp and 350Nm. The 2.2L mHawk engine in the XUV develops a 155hp and 360Nm.
The Transmission is a 6-Speed MT in all the cars, while the XUV-500 gets a 6-Speed torque converter unit.
Hector Vs Rivals Drivetrain: Petrol Engine
The Hector is the only SUV in this comparison to feature a Hybrid electric motor, whereas the Harrier does not have a petrol motor.
The Petrol unit on the Hector is a 1.5L developing a 143hp and a 250 Nm of torque. The Compass’ 1.4L unit develops a 163hp and 250Nm of torque. It is a 4 pot motor. The XUV500 features the largest petrol motor, a 2.2L 4 cylinder motor – developing a 140hp and 320 Nm of torque.
6-Speed Manual transmission is available in the Hector, Compass and the XUV500. In addition, the Compass has 7-Speed DCT and the XUV features a 6-speed torque converter AT.
