Citroen, the French automobile company looks like is all set to launch their first SUV in the country by the end of this year. The Citroen C5 Aircross has been spotted again in the country, completely undisguised thanks to a member from the 4×4 India group.
Groupe PSA and CK Birla Group already have an investment of about 100 million euros to produce cars and powertrains locally. Hence the Citroen C5 Aircross will compete against other SUVs like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, and the Jeep Compass. With a high level of localization, the company can also keep the costs down.
The India-specs Citroen C5 AirCross is developed in a new EMP2 architecture which will be powered by a 1.5L diesel engine, combined with an 8-speed auto gearbox. The Europe-spec version is produced at the company’s Rennes-La Janis plant in France. On the other hand, the firm will bring the India version as CKD kits and finally build in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.
The upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross will be a feature-packed model that includes two-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, dual parking sensors, comfortable seats, and much more. The luxurious cabin will get an eight-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and also Android Auto. The safety features include airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, cruise control, and others. The pricing details are not yet revealed. Although, it can be priced nearly Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
