Skoda Auto has brought many fantastic models at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo. Along with those models, the company revealed a new Rapid Matte Concept. It has got some interesting updates in terms of design and powertrain. The carmaker also showcased all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine. The Rapid Matte Concept is visually appealing compared to the standard Rapid model. To increase the sales of the existing range, the company plans to bring the BS6 version of Rapid as well.
Talking about the model, the name itself explains the concept. The Rapid Matte concept finished with a glossy dark grey matte paint exterior. It is flaunted by contrasting red elements on the outer rearview mirrors and red lines spreading over the side surface of the frame. It gets full marks for its appealing exterior design which is astonishing. The engineers have offered a shiny red shade on the brake callipers highlighted with latest 17-inch alloy wheels polished in black colour.
The overall designing is sportier and bold. Some other red elements include trunk spoiler and red edge decoration at the rear portion. The car is equipped with a rear diffuser as well. At the event, Skoda unveiled two variants of the Rapid namely, the Matte Concept and the Monte Carlo. Both the variants are different from each other in terms of exterior design. The cabin of Matte Concept is highlighted with grey decorations. It is equipped with the blacked-out seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearshift selector and Alcantara seat covers.
The BS6 compliant Skoda Rapid is powered by a new 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine which is capable of churning out 115 hp of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The new engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG on options. Unfortunately, the company will not update the current 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit and the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter MPI petrol engine to meet BS6 emission norms.
The BS6 Skoda Rapid will be launched by April. In terms of safety, the car is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and Hill Hold Control (HHC) as standard. The price is expected to be more than existing variants of Rapid. It will rival against the likes of VW Vento, Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Ciaz.
