Finally, the Indian automotive market has got its first BS VI compliant car which is the all-new Baleno. Maruti Suzuki has launched the new variant of its best-selling hatch with a new petrol engine. The new version of Baleno is powered by the most powerful 1.2-litre Dualjet, Dual VVT BS VI engine, featuring Smart Hybrid technology.
The next-gen hatchback is introduced at a commendable price starting at just Rs 5.58 lakh and goes high to Rs 8.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company claims that the new Smart Hybrid petrol powertrain will provide a fuel economy of 23.87 km/l. The Indian fans of Baleno can purchase the new variant soon from the nearby NEXA showrooms. The variant will be available in all the dealerships all over the country.
The adoption of the new technology has enhanced fuel efficiency, features and also decreased vehicular emissions. The 1.2L VVT petrol engine variants come with manual gearbox variants along with CVT. The Smart Hybrid technology featuring Li-ion battery has been announced for two Baleno variants namely Zeta and Delta.
The DualJet engine powered Baleno produces 90hp of power and 113Nm of peak torque. The Smart Hybrid system features brake energy regeneration, torque assist function and a start-stop system which improves the driving experience. This engine variant is combined with a five-speed manual gearbox. Along with the engine, the company has also improved the exhaust system. The car will now offer more accurate fuel injection control for cleaner emissions.
Commenting on the launch, Mr R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said “Baleno has been a blockbuster car from day one. We have over 5.5 lakh happy Baleno customers since its launch in 2015 and sold more than 2 lakh units in the last fiscal year. We recently upgraded Baleno with latest design and technology.”
He further added, “At Maruti Suzuki, we strive to bring newer, better and environment-friendly technologies to our products. Baleno Smart Hybrid with BS VI stands testament to the same. We are confident that the premium hatchback Baleno will present a complete package in line with aspirations of evolving customers.”
The automotive maker has modernised the car in terms of engine hardware and software to make it BS VI compliant. Now, both the engines have claimed a decrease of 25 per cent in Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions. The company has recently released the updated version of Baleno. Some of the remarkable features included dual tone exterior shade, infotainment system, and enhanced safety features.

With the release of the upgraded BS VI-compliant petrol engines, we hope that the company soon announce the diesel variants as well. The current release will definitely have a positive influence on the sales of the Baleno range. It will be great to notice the launch of some more top-specs cars before the impact of new emission norms ahead of April 2020.
